Low Poly Subway - Metro Station Kit
A low-poly subway station to build platforms, concourses and tunnels from, and its machines work. 116 props in a muted, stylized look, their textures made in code: metro tile walls and a ticket window, platforms and track, running tunnels and their portals, escalators and stairs, fare gates and a ticket machine, staff and lift doors, the station's supply and the traction current, departure boards, a clock and cameras, a train car and a cab car you can walk through, lights, signs, posters, benches and the track gang's kit, and 33 machines whose parts move when they're used. One script runs them in Godot and in Unity. In GLB, FBX and OBJ, with a Godot addon, a Unity package and a station to bring back to life.
Try it first: click Run asset pack above and bring the station back in your browser: find the staff key, open the ticket office and switch on the supply, take the ticket through the gates, start the escalators and put the traction current on, and the last train's doors open. WASD and the mouse, E uses things, F for a torch.
Goes with Low Poly Industrial Facility, Low Poly Bunker and Low Poly Sewers: the same 2 m grid, 4 m storeys, look and textures, so the station's service doors open onto the works, the bunker or the sewer.
What's inside
- The station (33): metro tile walls over the line's teal dado, plain, dirty, cracked and with the station's name in the tile; plain tile for a level up, trackside concrete and a staff room's cream block; half and low walls, posts, a tiled column and a steel one; metro, service, wide and trackside doorways, a passage and a ticket window over its counter; terrazzo, worn terrazzo, platform paving and service floors, a drain and an upper floor; enamelled ceilings plain, dirty and with a cable trough, the trackway's plain and beamed, and a staff room's; stairs.
- Platforms, track and tunnels (14): platform edges with their nosing, tactile strip and yellow line; track straight, with a drainage pit, littered and without its conductor rail; points that throw, a signal and a buffer stop; running tunnels plain, wet and bare, their end and the portal a tunnel leaves the station by.
- Ways up and down (7): escalators up and down, a storey over four cells, their steps running; glass balustrades long and short, a railing, a wall handrail and a ladder down to the track.
- Machines and doors (22): fare gates narrow and wide, an exit turnstile, a ticket machine, a ticket and a staff key; a staff door, lift doors and their call, the entrance's collapsible gate, a platform end gate and platform screen doors; the station's supply, a traction switch, an escalator key switch and an emergency plunger; departure boards, a station clock, a camera, a help point, a tunnel fan and a drinks machine.
- The train (2): a car and a cab car, 12 m each, on the track with their floors level with the platform: two door pairs a side, seats, poles and grab rails inside, the cab's headlights and destination. Each part has its own collider, so you can walk through them.
- Lights, signs and boards (23): trough, pendant, bulkhead and emergency lights; hanging way out, platform and ticket signs whose arrows point the same way from both sides, a name board, live rail, yellow line, no entry and street exit signs and a tunnel marker; a made-up line map, a timetable, four posters with no words or brands, a first aid box and a speaker. No real network's marks on any of them.
- Seats, bins and clutter (15): a perforated bench, a perch rail and the ticket office's counter; a see-through bin and a hooded one, litter and a newspaper; a cone, queue posts, a wet floor sign and a mop bucket; the track gang's trolley, a sleeper stack, rail lengths and a cable drum.
- 33 working machines, 24 animations: the fare gates' paddles fold back for a ticket, the turnstile turns a third, the ticket machine drops a ticket, the escalators run, the train's doors part when the traction current is on, the doors, gates and screen doors open, the supply's handle, the traction lever and the key switch turn, the clock's hands go round, the camera pans, the fan spins, the signal turns green and the lights, screens and boards light with the power. The moving parts are separate objects, so your code can drive them too.
- A demo station to walk and bring back: a concourse with its gate line and ticket office, the escalators down a well to the platform, the track between two tunnel portals and a two-car train gone dark.
- Seamless textures (tile, terrazzo, platform paving, ceilings, the trackway and tunnels; 128 px a metre) as their own PNGs, for your own geometry, and an icon per prop.
- One 2048x2048 texture atlas for the whole pack, filtered with mipmaps, the occlusion baked into the vertex colours, real-world scale.
One script, every machine
Each prop that works carries the same script, set up for it: a switch, a button, a slot that takes an item, an item to pick up, or a machine that's powered. A machine is powered while everything it needs is live, so the escalators need their key switch, the key switch needs the station's supply and the train needs the traction current. It says no when it's unpowered or wants an item, and its signals tell your game what happened.
Built on a grid
Everything snaps to a 2 m grid with 4 m storeys: a wall is 2 m long and 0.25 m thick, a floor covers a 2 x 2 m cell, and a track or tunnel piece is two cells across and runs 2 m along, placed on the line between two cells. The platform is at the floor, the track 1.1 m below it, and the train stands on the track 0.15 m off the platform's edge. Low Poly Industrial Facility's, Low Poly Bunker's and Low Poly Sewers' pieces snap to the same points.
Godot 4.3 to 4.7
An addon with a scene per prop: box colliders on every part (a door's move with it), an AnimationPlayer where it moves, machine.gd on every prop that works, one lit material, and a gallery with the station to walk and bring back. Tested on Godot 4.3 and 4.7, on Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility.
# traction, train: the props in your level
train.needs = [train.get_path_to(traction)]
traction.switched.connect(func(on): print("traction current ", on))
traction.use()
Unity 6.3
A .unitypackage with a prefab per prop (colliders and animation clips), Machine.cs on every prop that works, the same machines with UnityEvents, the pack's lit shader for Built-in and URP (baked occlusion, soft light, shadows, fog and a glow map for lamps, screens and signs), a demo scene and the station to walk and bring back.
// traction, train: the props in your level; carried: the items the player holds
train.needs = new[] { traction };
traction.onSwitched.AddListener(on => Debug.Log("traction current " + on));
traction.Use(carried);
Other engines
GLB, FBX (animations as takes) and OBJ, one file per prop, with the atlas, and the whole pack in one .blend with the station as its own scene. The machines' scripts are Godot's and Unity's; elsewhere the animations are there to play.
