PSX Look - PS1-Style 3D Shaders for Godot 4
Make any Godot 4 3D game look like it runs on a PS1. Wobbling vertices, warping textures, 240 chunky lines, 15-bit colour and that dither, over your own level in one line:
Try it first: click Run asset pack above and walk the demo's ruined courtyard in your browser, with a switch for every part of the look.
var psx := PSXScreen.new()
add_child(psx)
psx.viewport.add_child(level)
PSX.convert(level) # every StandardMaterial3D becomes its PS1 version
What's inside
- Vertex snap: vertices land on the low-res pixel grid, so edges jitter as the camera moves.
- Affine texture mapping: textures warp across big polygons as the PS1's did. A slider blends back to perspective-correct.
- PSXScreen: renders at 240 lines (or 480, or any), scaled up in sharp square pixels, in 15-bit colour with the PS1's own 4x4 ordered dither. UI outside it stays crisp.
- Five materials: lit (per-vertex lighting), unlit, cutout (foliage, fences), transparent (water, glass, with UV scrolling) and chrome (the PS1's sphere-mapped shine).
- PSX.convert: turns every StandardMaterial3D in an imported level or model into its PS1
match, keeping texture, colour and UV scale.
PSX.set_paramswitches any setting on the whole level at once, for an options menu. - Nearest-filtered textures, vertex colours, depth fog from your Environment.
- Demo: a ruined courtyard at dusk with torches, a pool and a floating gem, 10 PS1-style textures, and a switch for every part of the look. Walk it right here in the browser.
Compatibility
- Godot 4.3 to 4.7, tested on both ends.
- Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility renderers: desktop, mobile and web.
- GDScript and shaders only: no plugin to enable, no C#, no GDExtension.
