54 3D lightning and wind effects for Godot 4, one line of code each. Lightning strikes, arcs that chain from target to target, ball lightning, novas and storm clouds; gusts, dust devils, tornadoes and bursts of air, leaves, snow, sand, petals or ash. Shaders and meshes all made in code: no textures to import, no particle setup.

Try it first: click Run asset pack above and cast every kind in every style on a stormy moor, in your browser.

StormFX.add(self, "storm_strike")
var chain := StormFX.add(hand, "arcane_arc")
chain.aim([enemy.global_position, next_enemy.global_position])
StormFX.add(self, "sand_tornado", {radius = 2.0, height = 6.0})
StormFX.add(self, "leaves_burst", {one_shot = true})

What's inside

5 lightning kinds in 6 styles (storm, arcane, fire, toxic, holy, void): a strike from the sky that branches, flashes, throws sparks and scorches the ground; an arc between points, as many as you give it; ball lightning; a nova crackling out along the ground; a storm cloud flickering inside, striking and raining. Each comes with its light, flashing with every stroke. Void's takes light away.

4 wind kinds in 6 styles (air, leaves, snow, sand, petals, ash): a gust of streaks and what they carry blowing past, a dust devil, a tornado and a burst thrown out from a point, for a landing or a shockwave. Leaves tumble, snow drifts, sand streaks, ash rises with embers.

  • Strikes on your cue: set an interval, or 0 and call strike() from your spell. The struck(at) signal tells you where it landed, for the damage.
  • Loop them, or one_shot for one strike or burst that cleans up after itself.
  • Any colour, radius, height, speed and intensity; light and particles switch off.
  • Three ways to draw them: smooth, dithered (the PS1's ordered dither, for PSX-style games) or cut out. Per effect, or StormFX.default_transparency once for the whole game.
  • What the wind carries moves on the GPU: hundreds of leaves cost one draw call.
  • They bloom under an Environment with glow.
  • Drop a StormFX node in a scene and it plays in the editor as you set it up.
  • Demo: a moor under a storm sky with two standing stones: pick the kind and the style, click the ground to cast. Right here in the browser.

Compatibility

  • Godot 4.3 to 4.7, tested on both ends.
  • Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility renderers: desktop, mobile and web.
  • GDScript and shaders only: no plugin to enable, no C#, no GDExtension.
