Everything a card game needs on the table, for Godot 4 and Unity. Three full decks of playing cards, HD and pixel art, with 16 backs; a card shader that tilts cards toward the mouse in perspective and gives them foil, holo, polychrome, negative and gold finishes; and the code to play with them: a fanned hand you can hover, select, drag and play from, a deck that shuffles and deals, and a poker hand evaluator. Godot 4.3 to 4.7, every renderer.

Try it first: click Run asset pack above and play a hand in your browser.

$Deck.deal($Hand, 8) # dealt face down, turning over on the way
var h := PokerHand.evaluate($Hand.selected()) # "Full House", and the cards that score
card.finish = PlayingCard.Finish.HOLO
await card.dissolve_out().finished

Unity too: a second download holds the Unity 6.3 package, for any render pipeline: the same decks, backs and card shader, with the hand, the deck and the evaluator in C#, and the demo scene.

What's inside

The decks, 52 cards and 2 jokers each, every one its own PNG:

  • Classic: 250 x 350, pips laid out as on a real deck, and court cards of our own: kings with sceptres, queens with flowers, jacks with halberds, mirrored top and bottom
  • Big index: 250 x 350, with corner indices big enough to read on a phone, the court cards in portrait medallions
  • Pixel: 64 x 88 pixel art, its own pips, letters and court cards, drawn at 1x
  • Each in two colours (red and black) and four (green clubs, blue diamonds)

The table: 8 back designs in red and blue (16 backs), each in HD and pixel; poker chips in 5 colours; suit icons; a seamless felt tile and a card slot.

The card shader:

tilt — leans toward the mouse in true perspective flip — turns over in 3D, back and face
foil — a silver sheen that moves as it tilts holo — rainbow bands and glints
polychrome — colours cycling across the card negative — inverted, tinted violet
gold — gilded, with a sweeping gleam shine — a light sweeping across
dissolve — burns away at a glowing edge glow — a pulsing outline
greyed — unplayable cards shadow — lifts as the card rises

The code:

  • PlayingCard: any card in one line, PlayingCard.make(Suit.HEARTS, 12); flip(), shine_once(), glow(), dissolve_out(), finishes and backs from the inspector.
  • CardHand: fans its cards along an arc. The hovered card rises and its neighbours make room; click to select, drag to reorder, drag up to play. Cards glide to their places by themselves.
  • CardDeck: a shuffled pile shown as a stack that thins as you deal, with jokers or without, and a seed for the same order every time.
  • PokerHand: names the best hand in one to five cards, high card to five of a kind, jokers wild, and which cards score.
  • Demo: deal, select up to five, play them for points or discard; switch the deck, the colours, the back and the finish as you go.

Compatibility

  • Godot 4.3 to 4.7, tested on both ends.
  • Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility renderers: desktop, mobile and web.
  • Pure GDScript and one .gdshader. No plugins to enable, no C#, no GDExtension.
  • Unity 6.3 or later, in any render pipeline: Built-in, URP and HDRP.
  • The PNGs work in any engine.

Install

Copy addons/card_kit/ into your project. Open addons/card_kit/demo/demo.tscn to play.

For the rest of the game

Soft UI SFX: card sounds to go with these, three flips, three deals, a shuffle and a card set down, among 282 cozy UI sounds in one style: clicks, menus, scores, combos and win and lose jingles, as WAV and OGG for any engine.

License

Use in unlimited commercial and non-commercial games. No attribution required. Don't resell or redistribute the cards, shaders or scripts themselves as an asset.

Made with AI assistance (code, text, graphics): every card is made by code we wrote, tested in Godot 4.3 and 4.7 on every renderer and in Unity 6.3.

Until October 11: Sprite FX, VFX 2D, Weather FX, Scene Transitions, Retro Screen FX and Pixel UI together for $14.99 in the Godot 4 bundle.
