14 rigged PS1-style animals for your forest, farm or survival game, and every one of them moves: a stag, a wolf, a fox, a bear, a wild boar, a rabbit and a rat; a horse, a cow, a pig, a sheep and a cat; a hen and a crow. Each idles, walks, runs, attacks, flinches when hit and dies: 84 animations. Low-poly, point-filtered, in GLB, FBX and OBJ, with a Godot addon and a Unity package ready to drop in.

Try it first: click Run asset pack above, browse the animals with the arrows and play their animations from the buttons, or press A to see them all at once. Or take two of them into your project first: PSX Animals Free has the rabbit and the crow with all their animations, free under CC BY.

The PSX Bundle: from 7 October at 22:00 UTC to 31 October, all our PSX packs are in one bundle for less than a third of their price.

What's inside

  • Wild (7): a red deer stag with antlers, a grey wolf, a red fox, a brown bear, a wild boar with tusks, a rabbit and a rat.
  • Farm (5): a bay horse with its mane and blaze, a black and white cow, a pig, a black-faced sheep in its fleece and a grey tabby cat.
  • Birds (2): a hen and a crow.
  • 84 animations: idle, walk and run loop; attack, hit and death play once. The grazers put their heads down to the grass, the pig and the boar root, the hunters look about; the walks step their legs in turn and the runs gallop (the rabbit bounds, the crow hops). The stag, the boar and the cow charge, the sheep headbutts, the wolf, the fox and the small ones lunge and bite, the bear and the cat rear and swipe, the horse rears and strikes, the birds fly at you pecking. Each falls onto its side. The walks and runs play in place.
  • 14 inventory-sized icons, 256x256 PNGs with transparency, for a hunting log or a farm ledger.
  • 554 to 1,178 triangles an animal, one 1024x1024 texture atlas for the whole pack, shading baked into the vertex colours, real-world scale.

Readable at game distance

Modeled eyes and rounder bear and rat ears sharpen the faces. The tabby coat uses softer, widely spaced stripes; the boar keeps its coarse coat with less speckle. Browse the clear, fog-free gallery, then play any animal?s six clips before placing it in your scene.

Built like the PlayStation built them

Each animal is rigid parts (a body, a neck, a head and its jaw, a leg, a shin, a hoof, a tail) that turn at their joints, the way animals were made in 1997, so they move the way those did. They come rigged all the same: one mesh on a skeleton, every part weighted whole to its bone (17 or 18 bones a beast, 13 a bird), so your engine animates them like any rigged animal and your code can turn a head toward the player.

Godot 4.3 to 4.7

An addon with a scene per animal: its skinned mesh on a Skeleton3D, a box collider on each bone that moves with it, an AnimationPlayer with its six animations, one lit material so your torch falls on them, and a gallery. Tested on Godot 4.3 and 4.7, on Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility.

# deer: an instance of props/deer.tscn
deer.get_node("AnimationPlayer").play("run")

The full PS1 look

The animals are made for PSX Look, our PS1 shaders for Godot 4: wobbling vertices, warping textures, 240p, dither and 15-bit colour, over your level in one line. The captures on this page are the animals through it.

Somewhere to roam

PSX Forest is a PS1-style forest to the same scale and look, with a log cabin, a well, fences and a campsite. PSX Firearms has the hunting rifle and the shotgun, and PSX Creatures the zombies, the dog and the giant spiders for when the woods turn on you.

Unity 6.3

A .unitypackage with a prefab per animal (a box collider on each bone, and an Animator on one Animator Controller: idle, walk, run, attack, hit and death, with each animal's walk and run speeds to drive its in-place gaits without sliding feet), a PSX unlit shader for Built-in and URP, the icons as UI sprites, and a demo scene.

Other engines

GLB (animations as clips), FBX (animations as takes) and OBJ, one file per animal, with the atlas, and the whole pack in one .blend: each animal a skinned mesh on its armature, bound as it stands.
