13 animated enemies and survivors for a PS1-style horror game: five zombies, a legless crawler, a dead Dobermann, two giant spiders, three survivors and a mannequin. Each has idle, walk, attack, hit and death animations: 65 clips, on rigged models with crisp painted textures. Drop the scenes into Godot or the prefabs into Unity, or use the GLB, FBX, OBJ and Blender files in your own pipeline.

Try it first: click Run asset pack above, browse the creatures with the arrows and play their animations from the buttons, or press A to see them all at once. Or take one into your project first: PSX Creatures Free has the zombie woman with her five animations, free under CC BY.

The PSX Bundle: from 8 to 31 October, all our PSX packs are in one bundle for less than a third of their price.

Also in bundles: Godot 4 3D Bundle, PSX Horror Complete.

What's inside

  • Zombies (6): a man in a bloodied shirt, a woman, a nurse, a bloated one and a police officer, each shambling at its own pace, and a crawler dragging itself along on its arms.
  • People (4): a man in a leather jacket, a woman and a police officer to make your survivors and townsfolk of, and a mannequin that moves in jerks.
  • Beasts (3): a dead Dobermann torn to the ribs, a black giant spider with a red mark, and a hairy giant tarantula.
  • 65 animations: idle and walk loop, attack, hit and death play once. The zombies bite and claw, the people punch, the dog leaps and shakes its head, the spiders rear up and strike, and every one of them falls in its own way. The walks play in place.
  • 13 inventory-sized icons, 256x256 PNGs with transparency, for a bestiary or a kill list.
  • Faces readable at retro resolutions: shaped noses and ears, dark eye sockets and cheek shading; mottled skin, wounds and torn clothing on the undead.

Specs

  • Triangles: 718 (the crawler) to 1,186 (the zombie woman) a creature.
  • Rig: one skinned mesh on a skeleton, each part weighted whole to its bone: 15 bones a person or zombie (hips, spine, head, upper arm, forearm, hand, upper leg, leg, foot, named as Mixamo names them) in a T-pose, 9 the crawler, 16 the dog, 28 a spider.
  • Texture: one 1024x1024 atlas for the whole pack, each part's wrap 32 to 128 pixels, point-filtered; shading baked into the vertex colours.
  • Animations: 5 a creature at 30 fps, 0.5 to 5 seconds; the walks in place (the Unity prefabs carry each creature's walk speed).
  • Scale: real-world, 1 unit = 1 metre: the people and zombies 1.72 to 1.86 m tall.

Built like the PlayStation built them

Each creature is rigid parts (a head, a torso, an upper arm, a forearm, a hand) that turn at their joints, the way survival horror characters were made in 1996, so they bend the way those did. They come rigged all the same: one mesh on a skeleton, every part weighted whole to its bone, so your engine animates them like any rigged character and your code can turn a head toward the player.

Godot 4.3 to 4.7

An addon with a scene per creature: its skinned mesh on a Skeleton3D, a box collider on each bone that moves with it, an AnimationPlayer with its five animations, one lit material so your flashlight falls on them, and a gallery. Tested on Godot 4.3 and 4.7, on Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility.

The full PS1 look

The creatures are made for PSX Look, our PS1 shaders for Godot 4: wobbling vertices, warping textures, 240p, dither and 15-bit colour, over your level in one line. The captures on this page are the creatures through it.

Somewhere to meet them

PSX Hospital Kit, PSX Mansion Kit and PSX Bunker Kit are modular horror levels to the same scale and look, and PSX Firearms and PSX Melee Weapons are what your player meets them with.

For their sound, PSX Horror SFX has zombie moans, growls and a death moan, a bite, shambling, a dog's growl and bark and a spider's skitter, PS1-style, among 294 survival horror sounds (30 free).

For what they leave behind, PSX FX is 45 PS1-style effects with a Godot player: blood, impacts, muzzle flashes, fire and explosions.

Unity 6.3

A .unitypackage with a prefab per creature (a box collider on each bone, and an Animator on one Animator Controller: idle, walk, attack, hit and death, with each creature's walk speed to drive its in-place walk), a PSX unlit shader for Built-in and URP, the icons as UI sprites, and a demo scene. The nine two-legged creatures are Humanoid, so any Humanoid animation plays on them, Mixamo's and the Asset Store's included, and theirs on any Humanoid character.

Other engines

GLB (animations as clips), FBX (animations as takes) and OBJ, one file per creature, with the atlas, and the whole pack in one .blend: each creature a skinned mesh on its armature, the two-legged ones bound in a T-pose with Mixamo's bone names.
